Astrology, particularly from a humanistic perspective, seeks to illuminate the individual’s path toward self-understanding and personal growth. While an astrologer functions as a guide or interpreter, the question of bias, whether it can be eliminated and should be, is nuanced.
Astrology is inherently interpretive, and interpretations are shaped by the astrologer’s own experiences, beliefs, and worldview. This reality raises the question: Can an astrologer truly be unbiased? To some degree, no human being can completely detach from their personal framework. However, the real focus should not be on striving for sterile objectivity but on cultivating self-awareness, transparency, and respect for the client’s unique journey.
The Illusion of Complete Neutrality
In striving to avoid bias, astrologers and their clients may fall into the trap of assuming they can or should leave their personal experiences and subjectivity entirely at the door. Such a pursuit often backfires, creating readings that feel impersonal or disconnected. As a humanistic astrologer, my approach, first and foremost, values the shared humanity between myself and my client, recognizing that my role is not to dictate but to offer insights that resonate with the client’s sense of truth.
