My passion for natal astrology began in early childhood.
Growing up in a remote corner of Vermont in the 1960s, I first encountered astrology symbols in tiny horoscope booklets near the checkout counter at the White’s Market grocery store where my mother did the weekly shopping. As a child of about six, I was mesmerized by the glyphs I saw on the cover and sensed that these symbols held a profoundly significant meaning that I needed to discover and understand.
Several times in those early years, I convinced my mother to spend the 25 cents to purchase the Leo booklet. I read, studied, and memorized it until the booklet was held together by tape and a prayer. Astrological resources were decidedly rare, but captivated as I was, I scanned the world around me searching for those magical symbols. They seemed to hold an understanding that felt personally directly to me.
Growing up in a strict, authoritarian, misogynistic household that was quite devoid of warmth, I was a deeply unsettled child, feeling afraid and disconnected from others and alienated from the world.
Even the beginnings of Sun Sign Astrology found in those tiny booklets brought a fresh perspective to my life. As I grew in understanding the sun signs, I began to feel compassion and, in time, even developed some love for most members of the flawed, complicated group that was my family. Astrology transformed how I saw the world and those in it, opening a door that reshaped my life.
This early passion developed into a lifelong pursuit, evolving into a formal practice in 1994. Since then, I’ve had the honor of working with thousands of clients worldwide, using astrology as a tool for personal growth, empowerment, and transformation—for my clients and myself.
In early 2025, Weiser Books will release my first book, How to Read and Interpret a Birth Chart: Guideposts for Understanding Natal Astrology. This book distills my decades of experience to help readers deepen their understanding of natal charts, whether they’re just starting or seeking more advanced insights. My next book, with the current working title of Charting Love: Unlocking Personal Relationship Potential Through Your Natal Chart, will explore the transformative role astrology can play in understanding our needs, desires, and challenges in relationships.
What is Humanistic Astrology?
There are many ways an astrologer can view the charts. I use what I have found to work from many traditions but mostly I consider myself a humanistic astrologer. Humanistic astrology emphasizes self-awareness, personal growth, and the capacity for each individual to shape their life. Rather than predicting fixed outcomes, it views the birth chart as a tool for understanding potential and empowering conscious, well-informed choices. My approach as a humanistic astrologer is centered on helping clients fulfill their potential and align with their values. In our sessions, we explore your unique journey, using your chart as a map to guide you toward a life of meaning and authenticity.
Bringing a Life of Depth to My Practice
Having lived a rich, varied life, I bring empathy and understanding to each client and session. I strive to honor your unique life experiences, providing a safe space to explore every aspect of yourself with compassion and acceptance. Your astrological chart is a map of your soul; as well as a powerful tool that illuminates your journey. Together, we will uncover insights that inspire deep self-awareness, guiding your choices and empowering you to move forward with clarity and renewed purpose.
I will tell you more about my life journey and why Relationship is the topic of my second book on another day.
Great piece, Laurie!
